Border agent (thick Brooklyn accent), looking at my passport:
“Guernsey Street, where is that, Williamsburg?”
“Close - Greenpoint.”
“Yeah, it’s a good up and coming area. I don’t like the hipsters though. You’re not a hipster, are you?”

savory breakfast, yesterday and today
C&H Halal strikes again. Chambers St.’s finest.
Left-over spicy pork banh mi and spring roll.
Today’s savory breakfast — turkey, mozzarella, eggplant, and gravy, on a half — got in my belly before I could photograph it. Fuck yeah, Defonte’s! Fuck yeah, Friday!
Savory breakfast: Italian sausages and baked beans (sorry, coworkers), roasted garlicky vegetables, sriracha, chips.
Today’s savory breakfast: chicken rice from the C&H Halal cart on Chambers St. Brown rice with peas! Hot enough to give me hiccoughs. There was a bit of a white sauce shortage, so there’s nothing to hold back the fire. These guys open at 5am, so the chicken’s ready to go during standard commuting hours.
Nice lemony vegetables, including cauliflower, which is above and beyond in my Halal book.
